Bipartisan National Council on Election Integrity announces new $6 million ad campaign to ensure every vote is counted, with press briefing today at 2 PM EST

The National Council on Election Integrity — a bipartisan group of more than 40 former Cabinet secretaries, former elected officials, retired military leaders, and civic leaders — today announced plans to spend $6 million on advertising nationally and in key battleground states in the post-election period to ensure that every American’s vote is counted.

This public education campaign is beginning with a $150,000 ad buy in the Washington, DC, media market, starting on Election Day. These new TV ads will be running in both English and Spanish, and they will be airing on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, Telemundo, and Univision.

“No amount of yelling. No number of campaign ads. No pollster. Nothing can decide an American election — except you. So there’s one thing left that we have to do: Let our election officials do their jobs and count every vote — just like the law requires. Because this election, it isn’t up to the candidates; it’s up to us. Keep counting,” the new ad states.

Said National Council on Election Integrity spokesman Michael Beckel: “This new ad is designed to counter the misinformation and confusion about the vote-counting process. November 3 is the last day for votes to be cast — not the last day for votes to be counted. The Constitution and state election laws require us to count every vote, including legally cast absentee votes. We all have a patriotic duty to make sure all voters’ voices are heard and to let state and local election officials do their jobs without outside interference.” 

Since the beginning of October, the National Council on Election Integrity has spent nearly $5 million and counting on TV and digital ads highlighting our country’s ability to hold successful elections in crises and stressing we’ll do so again in 2020. 

To discuss the new ad buy and the work of the National Council on Election Integrity, Issue One will be holding a press availability today, November 2, at 2 PM EST.

This 30-minute press briefing on Zoom will feature Issue One CEO and Founder Nick Penniman as well as four members of the bipartisan National Council on Election Integrity:

  • Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright
  • Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN)
  • Former Amb. Tim Roemer (D-IN)
  • Former Rep. Zach Wamp (R-TN)
