Gov. Bob Taft (R-OH) joins the ReFormers Caucus

Issue One is excited to welcome former Ohio Republican Governor Bob Taft to the ReFormers Caucus. Governor Taft joins 160 former elected officials from both parties — 19 of whom are also former governors — in the fight to reduce the influence of money in politics.

Governor Taft was a term-limited governor of Ohio, serving from 1999 to 2007. He began his career in public service as a teacher in the Peace Corps in east Africa before returning to Ohio to serve as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives and as Ohio’s Secretary of State.

While in office, Governor Taft focused on modernizing Ohio’s economy: rebuilding schools, improving services for seniors and attracting new, high-paying jobs through initiatives such as the Third Frontier, which invested in technological research, and the Student Success agenda. During Governor Taft’s tenure, Ohio was twice awarded the Governor’s Cup, an honor recognizing a state’s advances in business development, advancement and capital investment.

He is currently a distinguished research associate at Dayton University in the School of Education and Health Sciences.

Governor Taft brings his leadership experience to our ReFormers Caucus, where his ability to take into account opinions from across the political spectrum will strengthen the bipartisan coalition. Together, the members of the ReFormers Caucus will continue their work to fix our broken political system so our legislators have the freedom to lead and serve the constituencies they were elected to represent.
