In response to the news that EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned today after a months-long series of ethical scandals, Issue One Executive Director Meredith McGehee issued the following statement:

“Scott Pruitt was a walking conflict of interest. It’s good he finally decided to walk out the door.

This is just the latest in a long line of ethical scandals from this administration. President Trump should look closely at (and learn from) this and other cautionary tales from his appointees going forward to even begin fulfilling his campaign promise to ‘drain the swamp.’

Whoever takes Pruitt’s place must work to foster a culture of high ethical standards in government, or risk worsening the bipartisan lack of confidence in our democracy. The last thing our country needs is a public servant like Pruitt who put his personal interests before his duty to the American people.”
